Since 2001, Terracentric has been in a leader in building out a range of successful day and multi day adventure therapy program modules for a range of therapeutic clients. ‘Adventure Therapy' uses outdoor activities involving risk and physical and emotional challenges to support positive outcomes in effectively improving self-concept and self-esteem, help seeking behavior, increased mutual aid, pro-social behavior, trust behavior and more.
Terracentric works alongside clinicians, mental health counselors, teachers and other service professionals within our therapeutic programs. Adventure Therapy programs are delivered both in and outside of classroom or institutional settings. Blending different client centered modalities for personal change, our overarching approach is holistically centered. This holistic approach provides opportunities for participants to enhance Mental, Emotional, Physical and Spiritual wellness.
People with disabilities, those managing chronic disease, those managing barriers to employment, struggling teens, addictions recovery and Elders programs all have experienced the benefits of our therapeutically designed experiential programs.
Our Clients have included:
- Drug and Alcohol Treatment Centers
- Agencies and other Health Centers supporting people with barriers to employment and disabilities
- Trauma support and recovery groups
- Health promotion programs, chronic disease prevention and intervention programs
- Family and school based workshops and programs
The Jade Coast Discovery offered by the Powell River Board of Education at Brooks High School in Powell River, is our flagship Therapeutic Wilderness Program for struggling students enrolled in highschool. This cohort program combines change base counselling with our leading edge outdoor curriculum. This program is offered in partnership with the Powell River Board of Education, School District #47.
Through an experiential education program we support the development of mind, body and spirit, and the skills and attitudes for improved family functioning and pro-social living. We are committed to ensuring that all our services operate in a manner, which places the safety and security of our students, staff and community as first priority.
Our programs use an ancient wilderness adventure camp format to teach outdoor skills and academic curriculum. Our programming also provides in-depth opportunities for personal growth work in the areas of self-esteem, interpersonal relations, and the development of positive behavior patterns for the long-term.
Over the duration of our semester program, students embark on self propelled expeditions in the region of varying length and difficulty. Based from the Powell Lake Outdoor Centre students will earn academic credit for course work completed during the program. Jade Coast offers Journeys in four modes; Sea Kayak, Big Canoe, Trekking and keel boat Sailing. Journeys programs venture to some of the most remote and beautiful locations ion the Upper Sunshine Coast.
The Jade Coast Discovery program is an opportunity for people to challenge themselves, develop new life skills and put together a success plan that will help them work through life’s challenges.
